Progress Exhibition

After some planning and alot of stress. Progress Exhibition was set up in Brick Lane for 4 April and the Private View was a real success and so much fun. It was a really nice way to conclude all the hard work that went into it.

Wye Valley Blinds logo redesign

I really liked the idea of using a blind as a baseline for the logo and potentially more information could go in this area.

Progress Catalogue

Catalogue designed for the Progress Exhibition. It was an absolute challenge to get it done for the deadline, but after going to the litho printers and signing it off, it was pure anticipation waiting for the final print. Printed in two colour, black and Pantone 273U spot colour.

Snow Joke

I should have started my second stint of work experience with Bibliothèque today but the snow has stopped me! When walking to the train station at 745am, I firstly noticed that there seemed to be a lot more snowy foot steps walking in the opposite direction. But on arrival to the station, the trains were nowhere to be seen. Here's my footsteps showing my swift re-entry into the nice warm house I'm staying in.

Lost & Found objects

After recently establishing a theme/brief for an exhibition I am helping to organise called "Lost & Found" (this name is very likely to change) in London, here are my found objects. I acquired 10 objects for £1.00 and tried to choose objects that either had some kind of connection to me or I simply liked the look of. From this I have had a few initial ideas and development will be posted up soon. More images on my website.

Japanese comic book

I recently got hold of a rather thick comic book from Japan which are very unlike the designs of the comic books over here. Apparently, everybody in Japan reads them and sometimes they even have some rather inappropriate pictures of semi-clad women in the back pages. Unfortunately, mine did not. However, I am pleased to say that I some of the page layouts are really nice and the one colour printing works really well with the simple illustrations. The typography on the front cover is visually interesting as well, especially on the spine.

New CV & Mailer

I have recently designed a CV with all my up to date information on it. Each one also has a different (spray mounted) photograph of my work on it. I thought this would be more successful than placing all of my work on as I thought that it would save space and cost for when I would mail it. I also thought that if I sent my CV with all of my work shown, it could imply that I didn't have any more work after that. Although now, when I complete a project all I have to do is photograph it and mount it onto one of the CV templates and I can send it off. There will be a mix of photographic images as well as images of recent projects.

I found this at a flea market. I love the package design, and how the package creates a diamond frame for the images inside. I think this is a really nice way of presenting photographs, and it has made me think more about how important the process of printing out photographs is.

Alex Rich & Jurg Lehni workshop

Today our class did a one day workshop with Alex Rich and Jurg Lehni. We were given a topic (mine was "waste") and asked to use a program called "Floodfill" which Jurg had designed himself. It was a challenging day but I was quite pleased with the outcome. My animation was based on sections of the circle representing time. The idea was to watch it and realise how you shouldn't waste time

I really liked the lecture they did afterwards too. They had such a different approach to most of the stuff that we're taught and all their projects were so individual and personal, yet really well communicated and clever. Here's some links:

British summer holidays..

I went to Broadstairs on the weekend. Despite the weather (which was bad) it was a lovely place and I really enjoyed my time there. It's awesome to see that there is still so much charm in these seaside towns!

Untitled Magazine

Very basic initial ideas for a magazine cover that I am doing in collaboration with some other students. We want the first issue of the mag to have the theme of one and the history, connotations and relevance of the number one.

Initial letterhead

This is the start of the WVB stationary. Initially I was going to do this with the business cards, but I tried it with the letterheads. Using alternate layers of black and white for each letterhead, it creates a continual alternation as the paper piles up. More importantly, it has relevance with regards to the logo and the underlines (implication of ventian blinds). I like the idea of presenting the business card with this as the background. For now, here are the photos I have taken of the letterhead.

I'm doing the logo and stationary for a blinds company Called "Wye Valley Blinds". They didn't want any kind of logo that compared to some of the horrendous blinds logos that you see so I made it simple and just had the name in bold with several underlines below. The idea was that these underlines added emphasis but also had a reference towards horizontal venetian blinds.

In a response to watching the Helvetica documentary I have begun to design a Helvetica Calendar for when I return to uni in September. Should be ready soon. Will see how it develops though.

Knee Op

I have had two operations on my knee this summer and due to my incapacitated state. I have decided to photograph the healing of the knee. This will somehow develop into some kind of photo book documenting the process which will be given to the Droitwich Knee Clinic where I had the two ops to show the healing procedure for future patients.
